Atlantis Dumaguete is located in the municipality of Dauin (pronounced Da-win), the capital, principal seaport and largest city in the province. The epicenter of Dumaguete's dive scene is Negros Island, the third largest island in the Philippines. The island is believed to have once been part of the island of Mindanao, but was cut off - either by continental drift or the rising waters at the end of the Ice Age. Fishing and boating in the sanctuaries is absolutely prohibited and Dauin has several established sanctuaries, which is the reason why there's such stunning marine biodiversity.  Dive sites such as Mainit, Luca, Dauin and Masaplod are well preserved and offer an enormous diversity of life forms; including the blue ringed octopus, wonderpus, mimic octopus, poison ocellate octopus, Ambon scorpionfish, flamboyant cuttlefish, and bobbit worms that are regularly encountered.
